Museum Studies at GW is one of the oldest programs of its kind in the country.  Established as a program within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences in 1976, it has awarded over 1,000 MA degrees. The program continues to maintain close relationships with our alumni:

  • Alumni are invited to departmental functions, such as our annual symposium and receptions.
  • The program publishes a periodic newsletter of our activities that we distribute to alumni.
  • The program maintains an alumni listserv on which we notify them of upcoming events and also post newspaper articles of current interest to the museum field.

In return, Museum Studies alumni are important partners in the program's success. Museum Studies Program alumni remain loyal by keeping the program abreast of internship and job opportunities to share with students; offering job and networking advice to graduates; and contributing annually to the Museum Studies Endowment, established in 2008.

Quote from an Alumna

"I chose to attend GW because it has one of the best Museum Studies programs in the country. It is nationally recognized and highly recommended within the museum field. Plus, it is in the heart of Washington, D.C., where most of the major museums in the country are located."
